The Swan Inn at Swinbrook is just a short drive – or, for the more adventurous, a 40-minute walk – away from Burford, often described as the ‘gateway’ to the Cotswolds. The town was known in medieval times for its wool and local merchants would meet in the ‘Tolsey’, a building which now houses a fascinating museum.

Why not wander down the High Street towards the Windrush River, savouring the spectacular view? You can stop off at the shops and inns, some of which date back to the 15th century.

Tour the ancient Cotswold villages including Lower and Upper Slaughter, Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water.

Cotswold Wildlife Park - 1 mile from Burford - not the same type of wildlife you'll see on the valley walk!

Visit renowned Daylesford Organic Farmshop and Spa.

Blenheim Palace, Woodstock home of the Duke of Marlborough and birth place of Winston Churchill.

Bicester Village - retail therapy.

3 local golf courses - Burford, Chipping Norton, Wychwood.

19 miles from Oxford.

24 miles from Cheltenham.
